The Louisville Urban League is a nonprofit organization founded in 1921. Sadiqa Reynolds is LUL’s president and CEO as of October 1, 2015. The National Urban League was founded when unprepared southerners migrated north for employment. These individuals needed help in obtaining employment and so the organization was created. Their mission is to â€Å"assist African Americans, other minority groups, and the disadvantaged attain social and economic equality and stability through direct services and advocacy.† The Urban League focuses on helping them attain social and economic equality through education, employment, housing, family development, and community development. They have helped 13,000 people. The organization is funded through the brown foundation and partners. These partners help to deliver work such as Jefferson county public schools (JCPS) and KyWorks. JCPS teams with the Urban League by allowing them to reach out to students about violence and other issues to help them and their trajectory. KyWorks works with the Louisville Urban League so the league can help those in need facing discriminating and inequality obtain stable employment. The Louisville Urban League works together with Cities United who is dedicated to building better communities. This collaborative effort created the Zones of Hope Initiative. Mayor Greg Fisher created the initiative three years ago after a triple homicide had taken place.
